Hi everyone! This is going up on Saturday, 9/12, for anyone who's visited this page over the past week and not seen anything new. So sorry for the unexpected hiatus--I've suddenly become overwhelmingly busy, and reading and writing sort of fell by the wayside. I have a giant deadline on Monday the 14th, so I expect after then I'll be able to carve out more time to read and review.
If you've seen my bookstagram, you've seen the giant TBR pile I have for September, including some exciting new ARCs. Expect reviews for those soon--in fact, if you're reading this, you've already read my ARC review of Beauty Mark by Carole Boston Weatherford! Yay! You can also look forward to a breakdown of some of my summer's bookish purchases, including a followup to *this post* on bookish candle companies! Lastly, I have danced around this for years, but I just want finally to name it: I'm a student. For privacy reasons, I won't reveal more, but historically I've fallen into blogging lulls because of coursework and the expectations I have for myself. Luckily, the longer I've kept at this, the better I've gotten at knowing how much time per week I need to keep this space active. (That's about 10 hrs/wk on average, if you're interested. I'd like to create a Blogging Mechanics post that explores this further soon, so stay tuned!) I hope not to be gone again for extended periods of time, but if I am, please know that I will always come back. I love chatting about books with you all, and I hold this blog in my heart always. Happy Tuesday (/Saturday), everyone!

I created this book tag for my Always Human blog tour post, and I thought I’d take a moment to answer the questions! If you'd like to participate, you can find the full list of questions in that post (linked above) or copy them from here!
Here are the rules: 1. Thank the person who tagged you! 2. Link back to the creator, The Baroness of Books 3. Tag some friends! 4. Attach these rules to your post. I'm tagging: Anyone who wants to join! Sunati: What would you change about your last read? My last read that I’d want to change is Anne of Green Gables. It was a little too heavy on the description, and I’d just like it to be shorter. This isn’t really a super insightful change, but it’s something I’ Austen: What trope will you always enjoy, no matter what book it’s in? Enemies to lovers!!! I go so feral for this trope, as seen in my love for books like Wicked Saints. P L E A S E give me every single enemies to lovers novel in the universe, I guarantee you I’ll devour them all. Luna: Favorite fictional robot? I’m gonna have to go with M-Bot, from Skyward! I shout about this book basically… every week, and M-Bot is one of the funniest parts about it. Rae: Most practical character? Elizabeth Sadler, older sister of Aubree (the star of Wanderlost by Jen Malone, a great romance novel). Very straightforward, always thinking ahead and planning. Very similar to me with her great love of office supplies. Mods: Two of your favorite book covers? I’m going to go with Wilder Girls and Descendant of the Crane for this one. Beautiful illustrations that I’d love to hang on my wall. Virtual Reality: What time period is your favorite setting to read about? I have to say the 1920s. There were a ton of societal issues, but I love the speakeasy aesthetic! Books like Iron Cast by Destiny Soria and Speak Easy, Speak Love by McKelle George rate pretty highly on my Favorite Novels list. The Waterfall: Most romantic scene you’ve read? Easily that underwater kiss in Fable. I can’t stress enough how much I squealed. I’m not going to say anything more, but it was easily my favorite scene in the book and I’m awaiting my Malaprops art print of it! Cayli: Sweetest character? Dev from Star Daughter! If you’ll read my review you’ll see why—he’s a great character outside of being a love interest, but my favorite scenes are the ones where he and Sheetal interact. He’s so kind and romantic. Yasel: A book that grew on you after you started it? Basically every single Holly Black book. The Cruel Prince series is the best example of this for me, because I didn’t like the characters or the plot until halfway through, when suddenly I was addicted! I felt the same way when I read The Wicked King, and I suspect Queen of Nothing will be much the same. Starlight Soldiers: Your favorite non-bookish piece of media? Right now, it’s The Witcher! I know it was a series originally, but I’m a massive fan of the TV adaptation and have rewatched it several times this summer. Due to time constraints I was unable to review Just Breathe, one of my favorite books of 2020, upon reading it, but I want to put it on your radar! Here’s my Spotlight On: Just Breathe by Cammie McGovern, and five reasons to read! David Sheinman is the popular president of his senior class, battling cystic fibrosis. Jamie Turner is a quiet sophomore, struggling with depression. The pair soon realizes that they can be their true selves with each other, and their unlikely friendship develops into something so much more. But neither Jamie nor David can bring themselves to reveal the secrets that weigh most heavily on their hearts—and their time for honesty may be running out. Reasons to Read
Hi all! Happy September! I can't believe summer flew by like that. I'm starting classes (honestly not excited to take courses over Zoom... it's the worst way to spend my days!), and it's a big shift from working and watching Netflix all day to stressing about exams. Luckily I'm passionate about the subjects I'm studying, and I hope some of that enthusiasm will buoy me as I adapt to this new virtual learning model.
I'm also planning my fall TBR, which is the second thing I want to share with you today. I read about 60 books this summer, which put me ahead of my GoodReads goal schedule by 18 books, so I'm okay to take on a lighter load while I study. Don't worry, I'll be keeping you all well updated on my reading life, and I have plenty of fun things planned. My September TBR:
