It's no secret that I love libraries. They are truly a blessing, allowing readers to get their hands on new releases without costing a thing. I also love secondhand bookstores and library sales, where books are often inexpensive. However. Some books are so hyped up that I can't help but click that little green "BUY" button. Here's a look at my next few purchases, some of which are hopefully on their way.

Even with my mountainous TBR pile from BTAF 2018, I have elected to start 2018 by reading library books. I love my local library because they offer a wealth of services such as online content, tourism passes, and are part of a network so I can get almost any book I'd like to request. Right now, I read both physical books and ebooks borrowed through Libby, an Overdrive app for ebooks and audiobooks. HardcoverEbookA short aside: Seeing girls of color on book covers gives me life! More to come on this, because I think this is a trend we wholeheartedly need to embrace.
If I'm not juggling at least three books at a time, there's something wrong. This week, it's The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic, Chemistry Lessons by Meredith Goldstein, and Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen.
I'm closest to finishing The Foxhole Court, and I'm enjoying it a lot. It's very character driven even though it's a sports book with an invented sport. The group dynamic is always changing, and I like Neil's struggle with identity and his teammates. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series. Chemistry Lessons is new to me, but I've read Meredith Goldstein's column in the Boston Globe for ages, so I know it won't disappoint. It's a fun, scientific take on romance, full of labs and Boston/Cambridge locations. I just got it from the library, so I'm not very far in, but progress will be made! Saint Anything is a reread, because I couldn't help myself! I read it just after it was published, which feels like ages ago but was really only 2015. It's definitely one of my favorite Dessen books, and I'm excited to meet Sydney and Mac again. What are you reading? Email, comment, Instagram message! I'd love to hear your currently's and TBR! Hi everyone! I hope you've had a good start to your week. Today is Tuesday, and it's also the release date of Queen of Air and Darkness, so I wanted to start something a bit special. I sometimes feel like bloggers tend to ignore our personal lives in favor of soley bookish news, unlike BookTube, where vlogs are just as common as hauls, or Bookstagram, where it's so easy to share a picture of a favorite pet. As bloggers, our medium is text, which can feel limiting, but I want to have a more personalized presence in my corner of the internet. Hence, Tuesday's Two, where I share some journal-style current happenings in my life.
Over the course of the year, my varied successes in following the reading challenges I set out for myself have proven that I am very much a mood reader. When I set out with my challenge list, I never imagined only reading a quarter of the books at this point. It didn't occur to me that I might not be capable of following a set list. But is this a bad thing? True story: On my GoodReads Want-To-Read shelf, I have exactly 661 books. Almost every day, I scroll through my friends’ recent updates, and I find new books that sound promising, and I click that little green button with glee! I never think about the growth of my TBR list until it comes time to choose a new book to read, or I’m puzzled in the library (do I brave the long list, or do I give up and borrow Harry Potter again?). You can see how my lack of specificity in my TBR becomes a problem.
It’s August, which means approximately two-thirds of the year has gone by and I am currently supposed to be shaming myself into getting back on track with my reading challenges, of which I entered five. Read on to find out how I plan to finish the year out strong!
It’s April--the month for flowers, rain, and… reading challenge check-ins! I’m a quarter of the way through the year, and I think so far I could be doing better.
There are 106 challenges for me to fulfill this year, but I like to list some books for multiple prompts to lighten my load. All in all, out of 84 individual books I have read 9. I blame that on my spring slump, and also on the piles of e-books I’ve been getting from the library. So many books, and so little time! As 2017 wraps up, I'm starting to review my year in reading. In the past year, my main goal was with my GoodReads challenge: reading 150 books, whereas in previous years I'd only gone up to 100. In 2018 I'm going to set a lower goal, but I've also decided to shake it up by entering a number of reading challenges hosted by other blogs and websites. Read on to find links and blurbs about my 2018 challenges. Feel free to comment with what your goals are for reading in the new year!
I must stress that all graphics were created by the hosts of the challenges, and links to their posts can be found in the names of the challenges listed below. |
